The idea of having another person dictate every movement your body makes is a terrifying prospect, but it is exactly the hook behind Remote Control. Developed by Canteen, this upcoming PC title puts you in the role of a remote handler tasked with guiding human proxies through the corridors of a derelict spaceship known as The Pelican.
Quick Facts
- Platform: PC
- Release Window: Autumn 2026
- Gameplay Style: Typing-based dungeon crawler
In Remote Control, you are working for a mysterious and clearly unethical company. Your job is simple but high-stakes: explore the abandoned ship to figure out what went wrong. Before you begin a mission, you must select your human proxy, each of whom comes with their own set of likes, dislikes, and a history of completed missions. Given that your previous proxies have largely met their ends due to your commands, this represents your final opportunity to keep your employment.
Type to Survive
The gameplay loop is a unique blend of dungeon crawling and typing mechanics. If you want your proxy to move forward, turn, use an item, or inspect a suspicious object, you have to type the command. While the process can be described as laborious, it is intended to be a tactile experience that mirrors the physical actions of your character.
It is not just about typing quickly, however. You have to be careful as you navigate the ship. The environment is filled with hazards, and there is an ominous presence lurking within the vessel. You also need to manage the well-being of your proxy—they can fall ill or suffer fatal accidents. Failing to keep your proxy alive means failing the mission, and as the game reminds you, that is a quick way to get the boot.
If you are interested in trying out the core mechanics for yourself, a demo is currently available on Steam. While there is no exact release date beyond the autumn 2026 window, you can wishlist the game on its Steam page.
