A new analysis of the Steam marketplace has positioned Palworld among the highest-earning titles on the platform. Compiled by the browsing platform We Love It, the report evaluated revenue trends across nearly 100,000 games to determine which genres offer the highest probability of financial success for developers.
Steam Revenue Benchmarks
The findings, led by former Steam Labs co-creator Ichiro Lambe, categorize Palworld as sitting within the top 0.00% of all paid games on Steam. The title is estimated to have earned approximately $500 million since its early access release in January 2024. The report compares this performance to other long-standing sandbox staples, such as Terraria and Ark, which are estimated to have earned $540 million and $400 million, respectively.
Sandbox Genre Performance
Beyond individual top-tier earners, the data highlights a broader trend for the sandbox genre on Steam:
- Profitability thresholds: 27.6% of sandbox games achieve at least $100,000 in lifetime revenue.
- Genre comparison: Other genres trail the sandbox category, with 21.8% of paid FPS titles, 19.5% of RPGs, and 19% of ARPGs reaching the $100,000 milestone.
- Median earnings: Despite the success of top titles, the median lifetime earnings for all paid games on Steam remains $3,631, indicating that high revenue is concentrated among a small percentage of releases.
The report, which utilizes generative AI to curate content, clarifies that while sandbox titles currently command the highest earnings potential, the vast majority of games on the platform do not reach these significant financial milestones.
