If you are planning to jump back into Palworld for the upcoming 1.0 update, developer Pocketpair has issued a critical warning regarding your existing mod installations. While the team remains supportive of the modding community, they have confirmed that files left over from previous versions—particularly those from around 2024—could cause significant technical issues following the 1.0 release.

The Risks of Legacy Mod Files

Pocketpair noted that simply toggling mods off or disabling them through a management tool is insufficient. Because mod loaders and associated files remain in your game directory, they are likely to trigger conflicts with the new system changes arriving in the 1.0 update. Potential issues include:

  • Game crashes during launch or active gameplay.
  • Corrupted save files or failure to load existing progress.
  • Broken quest progression or event triggers.

The developer also cautioned that save data dependent on specific mods—such as those that added new items or Pals—might become unstable or impossible to load once those mods are removed. Players are strongly encouraged to back up their save data before proceeding with any cleanup.

How to Properly Prepare Your PC Files

To ensure a smooth transition to the new version, Pocketpair recommends following these specific steps before the update goes live:

  1. Back up your save data: Always secure a copy of your progress in case of unexpected errors.
  2. Manually delete old mod files: Navigate to your Palworld game folder and physically remove any remaining mod folders or files. Do not rely on mod managers to do this for you.
  3. Verify integrity: In your Steam Library, right-click Palworld, go to Properties > Installed Files, and select Verify integrity of game files.
  4. Unsubscribe from Steam Workshop: If you use Workshop mods, ensure you have unsubscribed from all of them, though you must still manually delete any remaining files as per step two.

Once you have cleaned your files, verify the game launches correctly in its unmodded state before applying the update. Pocketpair advises waiting to reinstall any mods until you have confirmed they have been officially updated for the 1.0 release. Testing mods one by one is recommended, as the developer notes that any issues arising from modified game data are not covered by official support.
