Developer Italic Pig has released a major update for Paleo Pines, bringing a wealth of requested features to the dino-ranching sim. This patch, which is now live on Steam and the Humble Store for Windows, Linux, and Steam Deck, serves as the final significant update promised to Kickstarter backers following the Players’ Choice campaign.
Quick Facts
- Platforms: PC (Windows), Linux, and Steam Deck.
- Availability: Live now on Steam and Humble Store.
- Price: $29.99 USD / £22.99 / 29,99€.
- Content: New tracking tools, improved ranch mechanics, and expanded cosmetic options.
New Dino Tracking and Ranch Management
The update introduces a new skin tracker, allowing players to mark specific dino color mixes in their journal. The game will now alert players when a rare type spawns, significantly reducing the need for blind searching. Mari’s records have also received an overhaul, offering the ability to search by name, sort by rarity, and remove entries from the list.
Small dinosaurs have become more useful for daily chores. They are now capable of carrying up to two items from anywhere on the map, while larger dinos can haul between two and four. Additionally, small dinos can assist with ranch maintenance by working at compost bins and picking up waste. Clearers have also been updated to handle waste, aiming to reduce the time spent on manual labor.
Expanded Farming and Customization
The update brings new variety to the ranching experience with the addition of Meadowstar and Fiddlehead Fern crops, alongside Rainbow Trees and Rainbow Cacao Trees. Culinary enthusiasts can experiment with new recipes like Bean Surprise and Rainbow Cake.
For those focused on aesthetics, a new Memorial Garden provides a quiet area for the ranch, while Dapplewood features new carvings. Player homes can now be customized with Rainbow and Selkie paint. Other decorative additions include a Stegosaurus plushie, a Postosuchus statue, and a fossil wall.
Quality-of-Life Improvements
Navigating the world and managing inventory is now more efficient. Key changes include:
- Navigation: A new compass and the ability to skip to the next time of day via the journal.
- Inventory: An auto-sort button for bags.
- Movement: A sprint toggle in the control menu, with increased sprint speeds for certain species.
- Tasks: Town board tasks can now be dropped, and wood drops provide more resources than before.
While the team has not shared specific frame rate data for this patch, the update is designed to integrate into the existing Paleo Pines experience. Players are encouraged to visit the official Discord community to share their latest ranch builds and feedback.
