A new coalition of industry leaders has formed the Open Secure AI Alliance. Announced in late July 2026, the group is dedicated to sharing open tools intended to foster trust and ensure the responsible use of artificial intelligence.

Why the Alliance Was Formed
The establishment of the alliance follows a significant security incident involving Hugging Face in July 2026, for which OpenAI subsequently took responsibility. As AI models continue to expand in scale and capability, organizations are increasingly forced to address risks posed by AI bots being utilized for malicious activities.
NVIDIA stated that the new alliance builds directly upon the work of Akrites, a mission launched by the Linux Foundation in June 2026 specifically to protect open-source infrastructure from AI-driven threats.

The alliance consists of a broad range of hardware and software companies, including:
- Infrastructure and Hardware: NVIDIA, Dell Technologies, HPE, Cisco, NetApp, and Cadence.
- Cloud and Software: Cloudflare, Red Hat, Microsoft, IBM, Salesforce, SAP, ServiceNow, Databricks, and Snowflake.
- Security and Specialized AI: CrowdStrike, Palo Alto Networks, Hugging Face, LangChain, and several research-focused firms like Nous Research and SpacexAI.
While the alliance seeks to establish guardrails for AI development, the industry continues to grapple with the rising costs of AI-ready hardware and the technical challenges of securing these systems against ongoing exploitation.
