MapleStory is implementing strict operational changes for players accessing the game from Brazil to comply with local regulations. The adjustments address Brazil's Digital ECA legislation through a series of phased restrictions affecting both cash shop purchases and player communication features on PC.

Quick Facts

  • Platform: PC
  • Core Reason: Compliance with Brazil's Digital ECA
  • Loot Box Restrictions Date: April 22, 2026 (v.268 update)
  • Social Feature Block Date: July 22, 2026 (v.270 update)

April 2026: Loot Box and Chance Item Restrictions

Starting with the v.268 update on April 22, 2026, players accessing MapleStory from Brazil were blocked from purchasing any in-game items involving elements of chance. Affected items include Gachapon items, scrolls, circulators, cubes, coupons, and probability boxes, alongside Marvel Machine and Double Marvel rolls. These items were removed from the Cash Shop view for Brazilian users, though items acquired before the update remain usable.

July 2026: Social Feature Restrictions for Minors

A second wave of limitations arrives with the v.270 update on July 22, 2026. For players in Brazil who have indicated they are under the age of 18, a comprehensive social feature block takes effect. The restricted functions include chat windows and Maple Chat, chat emoticons, trade chat, voice chat, cash item gift messages, atmospheric effect messages, megaphones, guild bulletins and applications, party recruitment UI, Discord account linking, and custom chair messages.

Temporary Measures and Age Verification

Both the random item purchase ban and the youth social feature block serve as temporary measures. Legal reviews and response measures remain ongoing while work continues on an age verification system. This system will eventually allow eligible players to verify their age and regain access to the restricted features. Further updates will be shared by the team once the verification process is complete.
