Hytale has been available for six months, and while players have been exploring its initial sandbox state, the community has been vocal about wanting news regarding the game's first major early access update. Hypixel Founder Simon Collins-Laflamme has now broken his silence on the matter, acknowledging that keeping the development of Chapter 1 entirely under wraps has left players in the dark.
"Asking everyone to run on faith for months isn't great," Collins-Laflamme wrote on X. He explained that while the internal goal was to keep the new content a secret until its eventual release to maximize its impact, he now recognizes that the current lack of updates makes it difficult for players to see the game's progress.
What to Expect from the Update
According to the Hypixel founder, the studio has been focusing on foundation work and weekly patches, which has led to speculation about whether significant new content is actually in the pipeline. Collins-Laflamme clarified that the team is currently managing many different elements in production at once, but they have been hesitant to showcase them until they feel the game can deliver the specific first impression they desire.
Despite this, the studio is moving away from its total secrecy approach. Players can expect a blog post within the next week or so that will provide a clearer picture of what is currently in development for Chapter 1. The update will prioritize the following:
- Explanations of current development goals.
- Work-in-progress peeks at new content.
- A focus on transparency rather than final, polished visuals.
Collins-Laflamme noted that much of what is currently being worked on is not necessarily "chapter content" in the traditional sense, but includes features that are significant enough to warrant their own showcases or blog entries in the future.
A "Big Boi" Update
While the upcoming reveal will focus on work-in-progress elements to preserve some of the surprise for the final launch, the scope of the update appears to be substantial. Highlighting the scale of the content, Hypixel Community Manager 'BuddhaCat' reportedly reviewed the first draft of the update plans and described it as "a big boi."
The shift in communication strategy marks a change in how the studio handles its early access phase, moving from a "surprise" model to one that aims to keep the community better informed as the team works toward its first major milestone.
