GOG is officially working toward bringing its GOG Galaxy client to Linux. Following a job listing earlier this year that pointed to Linux as a major frontier for the platform, leadership has confirmed that development is underway.
Quick Facts
- GOG joint-CEO Krzysztof Papliński confirmed the development in an email to GamingOnLinux.
- A specialist engineer hired earlier this year is now on board, actively exploring the best approach for Linux support.
- Specific timelines, plans, or release results have not yet been shared by GOG.
- GOG currently supports Linux via web store downloads for games built for the operating system, but lacked a native Galaxy launcher.
Addressing Community Demand
Linux support has remained one of the most frequently raised topics from the GOG community. In response to ongoing inquiries, joint-CEO Krzysztof Papliński acknowledged the patience and passion of users asking about the client.
"Following the role we announced earlier this year, we now have the specialist on board and are actively exploring the best way to approach Linux support for GOG GALAXY," Papliński stated. "This is a significant undertaking, so while we’re not ready to share any specific plans, timelines, or results just yet, it’s very much an area we’re investing time and effort into."
Current Linux Options
While direct official client support is still in development, Linux and SteamOS users can already install and manage games from GOG using community guides and third-party tools, or by utilizing direct Linux installers provided on the web store for compatible titles.
