Publisher Xbox Game Studios and developer The Coalition have released the multiplayer reveal trailer and developer overview for Gears of War: E-Day, giving players a first look at Horde Siege and the return of Versus ahead of the game's launch.
Right now, hands-on multiplayer previews are rolling out across the internet alongside a Metallica-soundtracked trailer and a deep-dive video breaking down the new systems. The footage showcases the evolution of the series' classic modes, built specifically around the movement mechanics introduced in E-Day.
Horde Siege and Versus Modes Explained
The newly revealed Horde Siege mode is a player-versus-environment experience designed for up to 12 players split across three squads. Set on the largest maps in franchise history, Horde Siege sends three separate squads of four on individual missions across the same stage. The setup relies on class selection and optional objectives that reward squads as they navigate unpredictable battles.
Alongside PVE content, Versus returns as the core player-versus-player offering. The mode features four distinct options at launch, integrating new movement mechanics to update the squad-based combat style while leaving room for clutch plays. Developers also teased post-launch content plans coming after the October release date.
