Quick Facts
- New Release Window: Early 2027
- Platform: PC
- Developer: PlaySide
The real-time strategy game Game Of Thrones: War For Westeros has been pushed back to 2027. Originally slated for a 2026 launch, the title is being held for additional development time to ensure it hits the standards set by both the genre and the source material.
PlaySide confirmed the delay via a recent development update, noting that while work on the title is progressing, they need more time to refine their strategy-focused vision of the Seven Kingdoms. "We remain unwavering in our mission to deliver a real-time strategy game set in the world of Westeros that meets the expectations of both RTS players and Game of Thrones fans," the studio stated.
What to Expect from the Gameplay
Alongside the announcement, the studio provided a look at the game's mechanics, including short clips of characters like Jon Snow and Tywin Lannister. These heroes function as key units on the battlefield, possessing special abilities that can provide tactical advantages for troops. The footage also highlighted unit-based combat, showcasing cavalry charges and the destructive potential of giants, which can be countered by deploying specific unit types.
New Map Details: Ashemark
PlaySide also revealed a look at Ashemark, a 1v1 map set in the Westerlands. Designed to be a focused battlefield, the location features two open lanes with defensible positions intended to support tactical play, such as flanking and counterattacking. According to the developers, the map serves as an example of their approach to visual fidelity, balancing an authentic Westeros aesthetic with the clear, readable spaces required for real-time strategy combat.
While the game will not arrive this year, PlaySide expects to share more updates and reveals throughout the remainder of 2026 as development continues.
