Square Enix has confirmed that Final Fantasy 14 will arrive on the Nintendo Switch 2 on August 4, 2026. The announcement was made by game director Naoki Yoshida during the Final Fantasy 14 Fan Festival 2026 in Berlin.

Quick Facts

  • Release Date: August 4, 2026
  • Install Size: 117.2GB
  • Included Content: Base game plus five expansions (Heavensward, Stormblood, Shadowbringers, Endwalker, and Dawntrail)
  • Subscription: One month free, followed by standard subscription requirements

The transition to Nintendo's hardware comes with a significant storage requirement. At 117.2GB, the installation will occupy nearly half of the Switch 2's 256GB internal memory. This footprint is comparable to the PC version of the game, though it is roughly double the size of the PlayStation 5 version, which utilizes more advanced file compression technology.

Storage and Future Content

Players should be aware that the current 117.2GB file size is likely to grow. With a sixth expansion, Evercold, scheduled for release in January 2027, the total memory footprint on the console is expected to increase further early next year. Users may need to consider purchasing additional SD card storage to accommodate the game and its future updates.

Despite the large file size, Square Enix is no stranger to high-capacity software on the platform. The publisher previously set the record for the largest single game on the console with Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth at 91.8GB, as well as the largest game bundle with the Kingdom Hearts Collection, which totals 131GB.

Subscription Details

To assist with the server load during the initial launch period, Square Enix will offer the first month of play without a subscription fee. Once this introductory period concludes, players will be required to maintain a standard Final Fantasy 14 subscription to continue accessing the game.
