  • Level Cap: Increasing from 100 to 110

Square Enix has confirmed that Final Fantasy 14 Evercold, the game's 8.0 expansion, will launch in January 2027. The update marks the start of "The Godless Realms Saga," taking players to the Fourth, a reflection of the Source currently facing a massive flood of ice.

Ahead of the expansion, players can expect patch 7.56 on September 8, 2026, which will serve as the final narrative setup for the new content.

New Combat Systems and Jobs

Evercold introduces a significant overhaul to the battle system through two modes: Evolved and Reborn. Evolved Mode features streamlined rotations and a reduction in the "two-minute meta" for party buffs, while Reborn Mode allows players to continue using the existing combat style. Note that Evolved Mode will not be available for the two new jobs being introduced in the expansion.

The new jobs include:

  • Bastion: A main tank job utilizing dual greatshields called Skyltborg, capable of switching between melee claw attacks and ranged energy cannon blasts.
  • Ranged Physical DPS: A second, original job that has yet to be fully revealed, though sound design teases suggest a mix of magical and metallic effects.

Raids and Crossovers

The 24-player alliance raid series for Evercold will feature a Neon Genesis Evangelion crossover titled "Ghosts of Desire." Additionally, the eight-player raid series, "Beyond the Lifestream," will be a collaboration with Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Players can also expect the introduction of a new "hard" difficulty tier that sits between normal and savage raids.

Updated Character Customization

Character creation is receiving a refresh to better utilize the graphical updates implemented in Dawntrail. New features include a full color picker for hair, eyes, and skin, along with the ability to toggle visibility for specific armor pieces like shoulder pads and scarves. The developers have also confirmed plans to add further customization options, such as the ability to toggle Miqo'te war paint and modify Au Ra horns, in future updates.
