The Investigation

The arrest, which took place on July 14, 2026, follows a formal investigation into Steam malware hacks that began in March. According to the criminal complaint, federal agents identified Wilkins by tracking a cryptocurrency account used to purchase Uber gift cards. After subpoenaing Uber, investigators linked the gift cards to an account that had requested deliveries to Wilkins’ residence.

The group behind the scheme reportedly marketed these titles across several platforms, including Discord, LinkedIn, and Telegram, to lure players into downloading the compromised software. The games were designed to appear legitimate, effectively masking the malicious code that targeted digital wallets.

Previous Reports and Scope

The malicious nature of these games had previously surfaced in public reports. Last September, a streamer known as RastalandTV lost $32,000 while playing BlockBlasters, which he had installed while hosting a charity fundraising stream for his own cancer treatment. The incident highlighted the risks associated with downloading unverified software, even when listed on major storefronts.

Following the arrest, authorities have confiscated the suspect's laptop, phone, and digital wallet credentials. As of July 20, 2026, neither Wilkins nor his legal representatives have issued a public comment regarding the allegations.
