Modders working to recreate Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas within the Fallout 4 engine have confirmed that their projects will proceed as planned, regardless of Bethesda’s recent announcement that official remasters for both titles are currently in development.
Quick Facts
- The Capital Wasteland Project (Fallout 4: The Capital Wasteland) is continuing development.
- The Fallout 4: New Vegas mod team has confirmed their project will not halt.
- Both modding teams stated they have no official affiliation with Bethesda Game Studios.
- The Capital Wasteland team previously released their recreation of the Point Lookout DLC in 2022.
Modders Committed to Ongoing Projects
Following Bethesda's reveal of their future development plans, the team behind The Capital Wasteland Project issued a statement expressing excitement for the official remasters while reaffirming their own commitment. The group noted that their effort has been a community-driven passion project for nearly a decade and they intend to continue sharing updates on their progress.
The Fallout 4: New Vegas modding team provided a similar update via Discord. A moderator for the project, identified as Addison, stated that the team’s stance has always been to continue their work regardless of official announcements. Current project lead Metamoth backed this position, reassuring the community that the news would not affect the project's development path.
A History of Community Recreations
These modding efforts have already produced significant playable content. The Capital Wasteland team successfully released their full recreation of the Fallout 3 DLC Point Lookout in 2022, including its specific worldspace and quests. Since then, they have released various standalone assets, including weapons, object replacers, and teasers for the base game environments and The Pitt expansion.
The Fallout 4: New Vegas team has maintained a quieter public profile in recent years but has continued to release standalone versions of weapons from their project via Nexus Mods. As with the Skyblivion project, which faced a similar situation last year, these teams continue to operate independently, with no indication of plans to cease their long-term recreations.
