FromSoftware has released Elden Ring update 1.17 across all platforms, introducing a wide range of weapon balance adjustments, parry improvements, and field item changes just ahead of the upcoming Tarnished Pack expansion.

Quick Facts

  • Patch Status: Version 1.17 is live now for multi-platform players.
  • Required Action: Downloading the update is mandatory to play online.
  • DLC Release Date: The Tarnished Pack DLC launches August 27, 2026, at 3pm PT / 6pm ET / 11pm BST (August 28 at midnight CEST).

Confirmed Weapon, Spell, and Combat Changes

The latest patch modifies several categories of gear, magic, and combat mechanics:

  • Weapons and Perfumes: Five offensive Perfume Bottle variants received attack power boosts. Weapon-throwing attacks were strengthened for the Smithscript Greathammer, Smithscript Axe, Smithscript Spear, and Spear of the Impaler. The Smithscript Dagger and Rellana's Twin Blades gained increased crit power, while the Golem Fist heavy attack now has extra range. Great Katanas received bug fixes for jumping attack parries and low damage scaling against large opponents.
  • Parries and Shields: Parry, Storm Wall, and Thops's Barrier received parry performance improvements. Using Parry on Daggers, Curved Swords, and Small Shields allows faster follow-up actions, and Storm Wall's FP cost has been removed. Guard boosts increased across a wide range of Greatshields and Towershields, alongside reduced weight applied to select shields.
  • Spells and Sorceries: Casting power increased for Founding Rain of Stars, Carian Retaliation, Feather of the Divine Bird, and Rain of Fire. Meteorite and Meteorite of Astel gained faster casting times, O, Flame! features an expanded attack range, and the Gravitational Missile projectile no longer explodes immediately upon striking terrain. The Carian Sorcery Sword's Intelligence scaling now increases attack power across all damage types.
  • PvP Adjustments: Rakshasa's Great Katana deals more damage to the user while attacking, Rugalea's Roar was reduced in power, and victims of Rotten Breath and Ekzykes's Decay recover movement speed sooner when struck.
  • Field Adjustments: Certain items found in the field or dropped by powerful enemies in the Realm of Shadow have been swapped to higher-tier items or other treasures, though items already collected are unaffected.

Tarnished Pack DLC Additions

Players who purchase the Tarnished Pack DLC gain access to the Idus Knight and Heavy Knight alternative starting classes, whose gear can also be discovered throughout the world. The mini-expansion adds extra weapons, three variants of Spectral Steed Attire, and two additional NPC invasions.
