Forty years after the release of the original Amiga strategy game, Defender of the Crown: The Legend Returns has arrived on PC via Steam, bringing the medieval strategy classic back with multiple graphical options and an entirely new gameplay mode.
What's Included in the PC Release
The new PC port packages together multiple ways to experience the medieval England setting, where rival factions vie for control following the death of the king. Players can choose to play the game with its original, pixel-styled Amiga graphics, or opt for the classic mode, which offers contemporary detail, refined mechanics, and smoother systems alongside redesigned jousting sequences.
The New Kingdom Roguelite Mode
Alongside the traditional strategy offerings, The Legend Returns introduces a kingdom mode that blends deckbuilding and dice-driven combat. Operating on procedurally generated maps, players must unite the kingdom by defeating three enemy lords while managing threats from brigands, rogues, and Norman forces.
As runs progress, players unlock new dice types, relics, and mechanics. The world outside of direct combat features tournaments to enter, Saxon ladies to rescue, gold to raid, and castles to besiege. You can pick up the game directly on Steam.
