Bohemia Interactive has shared new details regarding the upcoming DayZ expansion, Badlands. While a specific release date remains unconfirmed, the developer has outlined significant changes to base building and security features set for the PC version of the game.
Base Building Overhaul
The update introduces a new map, Nasdara, which serves as a transition between the existing Chernarus and Takistan environments. To complement the map's abandoned residential areas, the developer is revamping the base-building system. Players will be able to take over existing houses by patching and repairing damaged walls, rather than relying on external structures like fences to block doorways.
This change is designed to allow player bases to integrate more naturally into the game world. Materials for these repairs can be scavenged directly from the building process.
Official Codelocks
The expansion will also bring codelocks to official, unmodded servers for the first time. Previously, this feature was primarily available through the game's modding community. This implementation replaces the need for standard combination locks, providing a native, standardized method for securing bases on official servers.
Next Steps
As of this update, the Badlands expansion does not have a finalized release window. Players currently looking to experiment with base building can utilize existing guides for official servers until the new mechanics are integrated.
