Audeze has officially launched the Maxwell 2 ANC, an updated iteration of its gaming headset that introduces active and adaptive noise cancellation. Designed for players who want to block out external sound, the new model retains the core architecture of the previously released Maxwell 2 while integrating a system the company describes as its most advanced quieting solution to date.
Quick Facts
- Price: $429 / £429 for PC and PS5 models.
- Noise Cancellation: Uses a combination of feedforward (outside) and feedback (inside) microphones.
- Xbox Availability: An Xbox-specific version is planned, with a $20 / £20 price premium over the current models.
- Compatibility: Works with the Audeze app on desktop, Android, and iOS.
New Noise Cancellation and Audio Performance
The standout feature of the Maxwell 2 ANC is its noise-cancellation system. Audeze states that this implementation uses a mix of interior and exterior microphones to reduce ambient noise without compromising the performance of the headset's 90mm planar magnetic drivers. The system also includes AI-controlled parameters and voice-activated commands to manage audio settings.
Despite the addition of ANC, the headset maintains the same physical design as the original Maxwell 2, including the headband upgrades intended to improve user comfort. It also remains compatible with the Audeze ReSkin earcup covers for those looking to customize the aesthetic of their device.
Feature Limitations
While the Maxwell 2 ANC brings new functionality, it continues to omit a common feature found in many high-end gaming headsets: simultaneous Bluetooth and 2.4GHz audio playback. This limitation was noted in reviews of the base Maxwell 2, and the new ANC-enabled model does not address this request.
The headset is available now for PC and PS5 users. Audeze has confirmed that an Xbox model is in the works, though it currently lacks an official release date and will carry a slightly higher price tag than the PC and PS5 versions.
