Since the release of Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced on July 9, 2026, players have been quick to point out that while Edward Kenway feels more fluid to control, some familiar combat techniques from the original title are missing. In a recent discussion with YouTuber JorRaptor, game director Richard Knight addressed the community's concerns, explaining the triage process behind the remake's development.
Quick Facts
- Game: Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced
- Release Date: July 9, 2026
- Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S/X
- Confirmed Feature: New Game Plus is currently in development
Knight clarified that the team had to make difficult choices to ensure the foundation of the game was solid. "During development, if you looked at Edward, he's so powerful right now, he's got so many tools," Knight said. "So we prioritized core combat because we needed to nail that."
One of the most discussed omissions is the ability to source throwing weapons. Knight noted that while the feature is "cool," it was considered non-essential for the remake. He pointed out that rebuilding such systems for modern characters, rigs, and animations requires significant resources. "Given the cost to reinvent the feature... there's just a lot more that goes into it," he explained. "So it was just lower priority for us."
The removal of hidden blade combat in favor of a focus on dual swords has also sparked conversation among fans. While Knight did not offer a definitive "yes" or "no" on whether these specific mechanics would return, he emphasized that the team is actively monitoring player feedback.
"I don't have anything to share on this one yet, but we're definitely listening," Knight said. "I read all the good and the bad feedback." He added that while he "can't make any promises" regarding future updates to the combat system, the developers are interested in prioritizing what the community wants most.
In the meantime, players looking for more content can look forward to a New Game Plus mode. Knight confirmed that the team is "working on that right now," providing a clear look at what is next for Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced.
