Aspyr has plans to re-release more classic The Lord of the Rings games following its recent shadow drop of The Lord of the Rings: War in the North – Legacy Edition on modern consoles and PC.

In a press release accompanying the new version, Aspyr included a teaser for the future of the franchise on modern hardware. "The Lord of the Rings: War in the North – Legacy Edition is licensed by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and is the first The Lord of the Rings title released by Aspyr," the press release states. "Fans can look forward to even more classic releases by Aspyr from the beloved franchise in the future!"

While specific titles have not been announced yet, the confirmation opens the door for other classic entries from the franchise to receive modern ports. Potential candidates discussed by fans include titles previously released on Nintendo hardware or older console generations, though rights issues surrounding older EA-published titles from the 2000s—such as The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King and The Lord of the Rings: Conquest—remain to be sorted out.
