100 Thieves have officially claimed the Valorant trophy at the 2026 Esports World Cup, securing a 3-1 victory over VCT Americas rivals NRG Esports in the grand final. The win marks a significant career milestone for veteran star Peter “Asuna” Mazuryk, who has been with the club for over five years.
Quick Facts
- Tournament Winner: 100 Thieves
- Grand Final Score: 3-1 against NRG Esports
- First Place Prize: $600,000 and 1,000 Club Championship points
- Tournament MVP: Matthew “Cryocells” Panganiban
The Esports World Cup, which relocated from Riyadh to Paris due to the ongoing Iran War, saw 100 Thieves dominate the early stages of the final. After taking the first two maps comfortably, the team faced a late-game challenge from NRG. While NRG prevented a clean sweep by winning on Haven and building a commanding 9-3 lead on Ascent, 100 Thieves mounted a comeback. Led by rookie in-game leader Jordan “vora” Pulwer, the squad forced overtime on the fourth map and clinched the series 14-12.
A Long-Awaited Victory for Asuna
For Asuna, who joined 100 Thieves at age 17, this trophy represents his first major international win. “We have an amazing coaching staff, an amazing in-game leader, and we just meshed really well,” Asuna said following the win. “It took us a while to get going, but I’m glad we hit our peak right at the right time.”
The team’s path to the finals included a successful group stage, a quarterfinal victory over MIBR.LOS, and a semifinal win against Masters Santiago champions Nongshim RedForce. Nongshim RedForce ultimately secured third place after defeating BBL Esports, who finished in fourth place.
MVP Performance
Matthew “Cryocells” Panganiban was named the Sony MVP of the tournament. His performance was highlighted by a massive 65 kill and 25 assist count during the grand final against NRG. Reflecting on the win and the award, Panganiban noted, “It feels really good. I still feel like I didn’t perform to my own expectations, but it’s been so long that I haven’t won a trophy yet, and I had many doubts throughout my career.”
The event also showcased rising talent, notably 18-year-old Yusuf “Lar0k” Kanber, who earned praise for his performance with BBL Esports throughout the week in Paris.
