During the war, it operated in the North Sea and the English Channel. After the war, it was transferred to the United States as a war reparation; it was studied in Philadelphia and subsequently sold for scrap in 1948.The S-706 belongs to the most advanced generation of German Schnellboote (fast attack craft); it reaches speeds of nearly 80 km/h, carries depth charges, and is equipped with four torpedo tubes, two at the bow and two at the stern, with a total loadout of six torpedoes. It can launch torpedoes both while closing in on a target and while breaking away. Its gun armament includes 30 mm and 20 mm cannons, as well as machine guns. At close range, this arsenal can destroy any enemy boat in mere seconds. All in all, the premium S-706 is set to become one of the best torpedo boats in the game, excelling both in engagements against other small boats and as a point-capturer in battles involving larger naval vessels. Jagdpanther G2 (Germany)A Premium Tank Destroyer for Germany at Rank IVFurther development of the Jagdpanther tank destroyer led to the 1944 introduction of the second and final production variant: the Jagdpanther G2. These tank destroyers saw extensive use during the final stages of the war, notably in the Lake Balaton Offensive and the Ardennes campaign. The Jagdpanther is a common sight in mid-tier battles, and the reason for its popularity is thanks to an exceptionally successful balance of high firepower, reliable protection, and decent mobility. Its 88 mm gun, the same found on the famous King Tiger, can penetrate the frontal armor of any medium tank and most heavy tanks. The already formidable sloped frontal armor of the fighting compartment easily withstands most smaller-caliber armor-piercing rounds, while angling the hull turns it into a nearly impenetrable barrier. The Jagdpanther G2 variant retains all the strengths of the fearsome G1, adds an Em 0.9 m R rangefinder and offers premium status, making battles with this vehicle even more profitable!Battle Trophy with Past VehiclesMissed out on previous Battle Pass vehicles? The Battle Trophy has you covered, featuring four vehicles from past Battle Passes or events. Opening this trophy will give you one vehicle from the list. If you have them all, you’ll instead receive Silver Lions and the special “Golden Battles Wager”, allowing you to earn up to 1,000 Golden Eagles. In December 1959, it was transferred to the West German Navy, where it was renamed Z4 Zerstörer. It stands out from other Fletcher-class destroyers due to its premium status and its secondary armament: six 76 mm guns that have access to high-explosive shells with proximity fuzes. Combined with its radar, this makes the ship a lethal threat to both aircraft and small naval vessels at great distances!FR-1 Fireball (USA) — first time in the Warbond shop! The first jet aircraft to enter service with the U.S. Navy, the Fireball is notable for its hybrid propulsion system, which combines a piston engine with a jet engine. This configuration allows it to achieve higher speeds and outperform piston-engine competitors during maneuvers. It is armed with four 12.7 mm machine guns, and its external hardpoints can carry HVAR rockets, fuel tanks, naval mines, and 500 or 1000 lb bombs.DecalsSeason 25 introduces the Miss October 1944 pin-up decal. Community Update No.13: What’s Coming Up!

Read captured notes

Hi everyone! Today we’re back with another Community Update, which goes into what you can expect to arrive in the upcoming major update and further into the future. So sit back and relax, and read on!Disclaimer: While we’re excited to be able to share work-in-progress information before dev blogs, the dev server and the full release, please bear in mind that new features, vehicles and maps mentioned in this news are subject to change, be delayed or even cancelled. War Thunder is constantly being developed, and as with all game development, unexpected delays or other unforeseen circumstances may occur. Thank you for your interest!Free Decal CodeWe are bringing back the “Student Pilot” decal, so if you didn’t manage to get it before, now is your chance!Simply enter code STUDENTPILOT here!“Student Pilot” decalOnce you’ve logged in, the decal can be found under Decals > Special > Other. The decal code will remain active from the publish date of this news until October 30th (10:00 GMT).Nuclear Escalation and Bomber Damage Model Comments from BVV_d If you missed the Nuclear Escalation and bomber damage model update from Game Director BVV_d, make sure to give it a read here! About Nuclear Escalation and the Bomber Damage Model by BVV_dPlans for the Next Major UpdateFreezing Your Login StreakLogin streaks provide players with rewards for consecutively logging in, including different trophies and special decals for logging in consecutively for a long time. However, login streaks can be lost if players don’t login even for a couple days, maybe due to internet outage, vacation or real life commitments. We understand losing your login streaks can be demotivating, so we’ve worked on a feature to help you with this. We’re now making it possible for the game to freeze your login streak automatically if you don’t login. To do this you need to collect “Freezes”, where one can obtained per 12 days of logging in. You can earn up to a maximum of 30 per account. For example, if you login daily for a 6 months period, you’ll have collected 15 “Freezes”, meaning you now have some for the game to freeze the login streak for quite some time. You decide to take a 2 week summer vacation in July, where you’ll be away from your device. The “Freezes” that you collected will be automatically used to freeze the login streak while you’re away. When you log back in after vacation after not logging, the Freezes will be consumed. Your login streak will continue where it left off.You will have to accumulate more to get more freeze days. This feature is available to everyone by default.New VehiclesWe wanted to talk a bit about the vehicles coming in the next major update! While we can reveal some here, the rest you’ll be able to see through the trailer and dev server, so keep an eye on those! 👀Right, let’s dive into some of the ground vehicles you can expect. China will be receiving the ZBD04 IFV, and the Dutch Cheetah PRTL will be arriving to France to support the SPAA line.A Thai Firefly Mk 1 and an Indonesian Avia B-33 will be introduced for Japan, providing more flexible ground attack options.CockpitsAs always, the new major update will come with some new and updated cockpit models. One we can show you today, is the French SE.203 Aquilon 203’s cockpit. The aircraft was introduced in the last major update and will be getting its fully updated cockpit model now. It has several key differences between it and its Sea Venom cousin, so check out some of the work in progress images below: New and Updated Weaponry in the next major updateGCS-1: Coming to Japan in the next major update will be the GCS-1. This is a self-guided bomb that can lock onto large targets emitting heat within the IR range (for example, ships), which cross into the view of their homing head. This is an entirely new type of guidance that isn’t quite the same as anything else in game bomb wise: it is released like a free-fall bomb, but in flight, it activates a search mode and locks onto the target autonomously. So a unique one for sure! You can look forward to this one on Japanese platforms that carried it soon.  Sea Venom: The Wildcat HMA.2 introduced in the last major update will have its available arsenal expanded with the addition of its Sea Venom anti-ship missile. These are work in progress for a future major update (perhaps not this one, but if not this one, the one after). A total of 4 can be carried using its maximum capacity in place of the Martlet and SPIKE missiles. Much like the AJ.168 Martel missile, this is an Anti-Ship missile that can also hit ground targets. The main difference being in the seeker, as the Sea Venom uses an IR seeker compared to a TV one. As well as the seeker difference, the Sea Venom has datalink, enabling Man-In-The-Loop guidance. Let’s cover that in some more detail next! Man-in-the-Loop for Helicopters: When we introduced the Man-in-the-Loop mechanic for aircraft weapons in the Heavy Cavalry major update, we mentioned the mechanic would be coming later on for helicopters, as we first wanted to expand the range of available MITL capable weaponry open to nations across their respective helicopters. With the addition of some of the new helicopters and weaponry for them last major update, we’re now ready to move forward with this plan and introduce Man-in-the-Loop guidance for helicopters in this major update. We would also like to note, we are considering increasing the BR of all helicopters that will have this feature. All of the AH-64E Apache variants (USA, Britain, Japan, France, China) and AH-64D-I Seraph in the in game will have this feature via the SPIKE NLOS, as well as the EC-665 Tiger HAD Block 2 (France), AH-129D, H145M and Israeli AH-60 via SPIKE ER. The Wildcat HMA.2 will have both SPIKE NLOS as well as its new Sea Venom missile in a future major update that also features MITL guidance, as well as the LMUR on the Mi-28NM and the CM-502KG on the Z-10ME. For MITL generally (both helicopters and aircraft), we are also planning on refining the aiming feature to allow you to adjust the point of aiming on the target mid flight, which is useful when targeting tanks and larger targets like ships! WE177A: For Nuclear Escalation, a brand new nuclear bomb will be joining the game. The British WE177A is a standard free-fall nuclear bomb that can be carried by Tornado GR.1 in game. This was the last Nuclear Bomb used by the RAF, with the Tornado being the last aircraft to carry it. You can put this new nuke to the test in Nuclear Escalation! Aster-30 PIF-PAF: In a future update this year (perhaps not this one, but if not this one, the one after), the Aster-30 missile will receive a new feature known as the “PIF-PAF” steering system. In short, this allows the missile to utilize its side directional thrusters, which expel gas to the sides of the missile to allow it to have enhanced manoeuvrability during the terminal phase against an aggressively manoeuvring target. This will enhance the effectiveness of the missile during the later stages of its flight course, as it gets close to the target. Due to the inertialess application of control forces, this type of control allows for almost instantaneous corrections to the G-force during multidirectional manoeuvrers, making it more difficult for the target to evade such a missile with a sharp manoeuvrer. Since the force applied to the missile is generated by the rocket engine, the missile receives additional lateral acceleration 1 second before impact, regardless of its own available G-force, which can be useful when attacking targets at high altitudes or distances, where the missile's own available G-force is no longer sufficient to successfully engage the target. This additional method of control at the end of the missiles trajectory improves the missile's target guidance accuracy, resulting in a higher probability of intercepting small, high-speed targets such as ballistic or anti-radiation missiles. Keep an eye out for this one on the SAMP/T systems!  Cluster Bombs: That’s right! An entirely new type of weapon will be coming to the game. It’s too soon to go into the details fully just yet, as we have more to reveal on this later. However this new type of bomb will be perfect for Nuclear Escalation and taking out columns or groups of armoured vehicles. These are specialist anti-tank bombs generally designed to cover an area rather than a specific point or target. We should note, these bombs won’t be available in standard Ground Battles. But it will be a weapon unique to Air Battles, primarily for Nuclear Escalation. Stay tuned to the news for more ahead! Mosquito wing bomb racks and Martlet Rockets: Major updates always feature lots of new weaponry choices and expansions for existing vehicles of all ranks. This one won’t be any exception to that. The fighter bomber series of Mosquitos will be receiving a new wing mounted bomb rack, allowing for the installation of 250lb and 500lb bombs. This is a different rack to that found on the Mosquito B Mk XVI currently and required a new visual pylon model. Additionally the Martlet Mk IV, the British version of the Wildcat will receive its RP-3 rocket racks, allowing for enhanced CAS possibilities with these aircraft! Map Reworks for Sun City and American DesertWe’ve worked on making visual upgrades to the Sun City and American Desert ground maps.EventsWe’re into the final three months of the year now, which is typically the busiest time for War Thunder! Today, we’re letting you know some planned events that you can expect from now leading up to the end of December. Please keep in mind that plans can change, meaning events might move around, be postponed, or new events not mentioned here may be added. Thanks for your understanding!TimelineOctoberRight, let’s first off start with what you can expect for the remainder of this month. As you may be aware, the next Battle Pass will be beginning on October 21st, and with it are two German Second World War premium vehicles! There will be one tank destroyer that you may be familiar with, and a coastal boat! As we always do, the Battle Pass news will be announced before the start of it, so please keep an eye out for that so you know what’s coming!Next up, at the end of October you can expect our traditional Dreams Come true event with one vehicle reward for War Thunder’s birthday. We’ll be doing our birthday discounts like we do yearly as well.NovemberWar Thunder’s birthday celebrations will continue from October into November as you may expect! However, that’s not everything we have planned, as we also have plans for another event. This event is one that we ran last year and can be seen as a little “extra” event that will start at the beginning of mid-November. And lastly, after War Thunder’s birthday Dreams Come True event concludes, we’ll be starting a naval event for a US coastal vessel.DecemberDecember, the month of holidays and celebrations! This month will be packed with festive events. First off, when the naval event concludes, we’ll be running a tank vehicle event for a Chinese mid-tier tank, which will start in early December. That’s not the only event though! Save up your Silver Lions, as a fan favourite, the Silver Lion trophy will be making a return in mid-December!And last but not least, we’ll be running a winter vehicle event in December, with four vehicle rewards instead of just one. This event will run into January 2027 as it usually does. More details will be revealed in time!Snail PlushieA friend will soon be deployedUntil the next oneThat’s it for this one, we hope you enjoyed reading it and gaining insights into our future plans. We’ve taken inspiration from the real location, where there are grass plains, small houses, and even an airfield. It’s open, but there’s still cover and plenty of defilades to hide in! Darwin Hill Red Desert for Ground Battles has had some reworks, and the Falkland Islands and Afghanistan Air Battle maps have been improved visually.Improvements to Air Locations New Permanent Modes, Shown in Submodes in the Dropdown Menu! There’s mode options to enjoy in War Thunder, for example smaller team sizes in Air Battles or Night mode in Ground Battles. There’s also events such as Nuclear Escalation, Naval Enduring Confrontation and Bullet Hell that were previously located in the Events & Tournaments tab. However, finding where to select these options was quite difficult, especially for newer players who may not have known they exist. So, we’ve added them to the drop-down menu under the To Battle button in the hangar, making them easily visible to the player from a quick glance. This also means Nuclear Escalation, Naval Enduring Confrontation and Bullet Hell are now permanent modes that you can play anytime.Improvements to Bomber SurvivabilityWe’ve completely overhauled the damage model for bombers in Sky Odyssey! We’ve fixed several bugs, adjusted damage accumulation parameters, recalculated hit zones, and updated settings for wing spars, tail assemblies, fuselages, and engines. We’ve adopted a flexible approach: for piston-engined aircraft, we created distinct configurations for inline and radial engines, as well as for varying engine counts ranging from two to six. We also separately tuned jet bombers, which require a different damage calculation logic. Check out the video to see how significant the changes are:UI Improvements: New Preset MenuWe’ve overhauled the preset UI in the hangar to improve the user experience and add better functionality. There is now a dropdown menu on the left side (replacing the presets window) with the same functionality as before: adding, rearranging, naming and deleting presets. There’s also horizontal scrolling, optional automatic display of the gamemode and Battle Rating, and last but not least more presets have been added: the limit on the presets doesn’t depend on unlocked vehicle ranks and has been increased from maximum 18 to 25, all available right from the start! UI Improvements: Historical MarkersYou can now change the style of the markers on the map between War Thunder’s default, NATO or USSR! All vehicle types have received preset icons in the three styles. Previously this feature was only available in the Nuclear Escalation mode. There’s plenty more to see!Check out the full changelog for all improvements and additions!Full changelogNew locations and missionsDarwin Hill — a new location for Ground Battles has been added.Location and mission updatesPyrenees — a bug that caused a viaduct to float has been fixed.Second Battle of El Alamein — paths to unintended positions in grid squares A2 and C3 have been blocked.Attica — the unintended position in grid square C3 has been blocked.Gold Quarry — unintended positions at the edges of the map have been blocked. Previously, these blocks provided the stated 400 mm equivalent, whereas the 600 mm of protection (for normal to the surface hits) are provided if the first layer of “Relict” ERA located in the rigid side screen and the standoff distance from the hull side are included. “Relict” all-aspect ERA blocks in rigid casings on the rear and sides of the turret of

Updated Nuclear Escalation: Vietnam!

Read captured notes

We’re returning the Nuclear Escalation mode to the Vietnam era for aircraft with Battle Ratings of 8.7-11.0! MiG-21s vs F-105s, Shrikes vs S-75s, the air war over Vietnam was ruthless, and now you can find yourself at the heart of a hypothetical escalation of that conflict. Here are the details! The mode is available from September 2nd (13:00 GMT) until September 7th (13:00 GMT) in the Events and Tournaments tab.About the Nuclear Escalation modeThe Nuclear Escalation mode depicts a large-scale conflict involving nuclear weapons, where you take command of frontline aircraft armed with nuclear bombs. The battlefield is constantly changing. Break through enemy defenses, destroy depots and enemy convoys to cut off the front’s supply lines and dramatically impact the course of the operation. Disable airfields and destroy artillery and tactical ballistic missile systems that remotely attack your troop positions and can strike in the most unexpected and unfavorable locations. Suppress anti-aircraft positions, including medium and long-range systems, and destroy the carrier fleet and its escort. And of course gain air superiority, all with unlimited spawns!Updated Ground Vehicle lineupLet’s start with the vehicles! All Rapier SAM systems have been replaced by the FlaRakPz 1, armed with Roland 1 missiles. While the Rapiers did not trigger the radar warning receivers (RWR) of aircraft at these Battle Ratings and utilized smokeless missiles, the Rolands are detected by the RWRs typical of this Battle Rating range and leave a highly visible smoke trail. Furthermore, in terms of performance characteristics, the Roland 1 missile is much closer to the Osa’s missile than the Rapier is.Some of the changes to the vehicle lineup were made specifically for the 10.0-11.0 Battle Rating range. Previously, airfield protection was clearly inadequate and failed to prevent attacks on players taking off or landing. Therefore, in addition to three ZSU-23-4 or M163 gun-based SPAAGs, three Osa-AKM SAM systems (carrying four missiles each) have been deployed for one side, and three FlaRakPz 1 systems for the other. The air defense composition protecting the tactical assembly areas has also been changed. One ZSU-57-2 was replaced by an Osa-AKM (carrying four missiles), and one M42 Duster was replaced by a FlaRakPz 1 (equipped with Roland 1 missiles). Additionally, the composition of the Soviet convoys was adjusted. The single BMP-1 in each was replaced by a ZSU-23-4, bringing the total number of ZSU-23-4s per column to two. This change was made to compensate for disparities in the ground-attack capabilities of the most common strike aircraft, specifically regarding the quantity of fire-and-forget guided munitions.Location changesPreviously, low-altitude flight made it very easy to break through to enemy airfields; in addition to reinforcing air defenses in specific Battle Rating brackets, we are now adding special raised platforms to the airfields to accommodate surface-to-air missile (SAM) systems across all eras of this mode. These platforms elevate the anti-aircraft units, improving their line of sight and enhancing protection for aircraft during takeoff and landing. We’ve reduced the forest density on the map and lowered the average height of vegetation along the roads, making it easier and more convenient to attack targets moving along them.CrewsFinally, we must mention one more change: all crews of nuclear-capable aircraft now have maximum skill levels and Expert qualification. Your pilots will not let you down at the most critical moment.Take your seat in the cockpit and see whose tactics prevail. Check the changelog for more details. Good luck, pilots!
