FromSoftware director Hidetaka Miyazaki has revealed that the multiplayer exclusive The Duskbloods had a surprisingly long incubation period, originating as a project for the original Nintendo Switch back in 2021.

Quick Facts

  • Original Platform Target: Nintendo Switch (starting in 2021)
  • Current Platform: Nintendo Switch 2
  • Director: Hidetaka Miyazaki

Targeting Nintendo's base hardware early in the project proved to be a steep challenge for the development team. According to Miyazaki, building the game under those initial hardware constraints pushed the studio, making the eventual unveiling of the Nintendo Switch 2 a major relief.

Miyazaki noted that he and the rest of the team were "definitely very happy" when Nintendo finally showcased the Switch 2. The upgrade in hardware power meant the development team could finally realize the multiplayer title's full technical potential without the severe limitations they faced during the 2021 prototyping and early build phases.
