Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy XIV will officially arrive on the Nintendo Switch 2 on Tuesday, August 4, 2026. Pre-orders for the new platform version are currently available via the Nintendo eShop.

Subscription and Platform Details

While the game requires a monthly subscription, it will not necessitate a Nintendo Switch Online membership. To encourage adoption and account for server stability, Square Enix is offering an approximately one-month free subscription period for Switch 2 users. Additionally, players who already maintain a subscription on another platform are eligible for a 50 percent discount on the Switch 2 subscription price.

Evercold Expansion and New Content

Following the base game launch, the title’s sixth expansion, Evercoldis slated for release in January 2027. The expansion will introduce the "Goddless Realms Saga" story arc and several gameplay updates, including:

  • New Job: The Bastion, a main tank class equipped with two greatshields called skyltborg.
  • Narrative Changes: Players will have increased freedom to choose their path through the main scenario, with "Auto Content Balancing" adjusting dungeon difficulty and enemy levels to match the player.
  • Character Customization: Updates include a new color picker, fine-tuned facial features, and "Character Action Skins" to personalize animations for general actions like Teleport.

The expansion also features "Beyond the Lifestream," an eight-player raid series based on the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy, and an alliance raid series featuring Evangelionwith guest designer Mahiro Maeda joining the project.

Patch Schedule and System Updates

Square Enix confirmed several technical and feature updates following the expansion launch:

  • Patch 7.5x: Matchmaking will expand to cover entire physical data centers, moving away from current logical data center limitations. This begins in Japan in mid-October 2026, followed by North America and Europe.
  • Patch 8.1: A major overhaul for the Chocobo Companion system, allowing players to call their chocobo to assist in dungeons.
  • Gold Saucer: A new Final Fantasy VII-themed typing mini-game, "Keybound Brawler," arrives on October 28, 2026.

The Evercold Collector’s Bundle will be available, featuring physical items such as a Reaper figure, a Köttr mini plush, and a tapestry, alongside digital in-game items including the Crystal Skyltborg weapon and Vallhallar Odin mount.
