Shigeru Miyamoto on Nintendo's Remake Strategy
The announcement follows recent comments from Mario and Zelda creator Shigeru Miyamoto regarding Nintendo's active pursuit of remakes. Speaking with Famitsu, Miyamoto explained that remaking older titles helps bridge the gap for younger players who missed out on games released a decade prior.
"Some people might say there are a lot of remakes, but after five years, a lot of people have outgrown games and stopped playing them," Miyamoto told Famitsu. "Young people today don't have the opportunity to play games from ten years ago, so remaking them to be more playable and releasing them again is a good way to meet the demand."
Looking Ahead After Breath of the Wild
Miyamoto also noted that revisiting classic titles often lays the groundwork for future projects. Nintendo's recent history supports this philosophy, with past remakes like Link's Awakening directly preceding original entries in the franchise, such as Echoes of Wisdom.
How Nintendo handles updating a game widely considered a masterpiece for current hardware remains to be seen, but the release will arrive later this year.
