Final Fantasy XIV is officially available on the Nintendo Switch 2 as of August 4, 2026. Square Enix has brought the long-running MMORPG to the portable platform, offering a 30 percent discount on game versions for a limited time.
Getting Started and the Free Trial
Despite the current sale, new players are encouraged to utilize the game's extensive free trial rather than purchasing a license immediately. The trial now includes A Realm Reborn, Heavensward, Stormblood, and Shadowbringers, allowing for character progression up to level 80.
The free trial also grants access to several job classes introduced in those expansions, including the Machinist, Astrologian, Dancer, Dark Knight, Red Mage, Gunbreaker, and Samurai. Trial users face certain restrictions, such as a 300,000 gil currency cap, limited chat commands, and an inability to create their own parties, though they can still join others via the dungeon queue.
Subscription and Platform Details
Players who decide to move beyond the free trial will need to purchase the Final Fantasy XIV Complete Edition, which includes Endwalker and Dawntrail. Every license purchase includes 30 days of subscription time for free.
For those transitioning from other platforms, please note the following:
- Separate Licensing: You must buy a new game license specifically for the Switch 2.
- Subscription Costs: Players with an active subscription on another platform must purchase a separate one for the Switch 2, though Square Enix is offering this at a 50 percent discount.
- Online Services: Unlike the Xbox version, playing on the Nintendo Switch 2 does not require a paid console-specific online subscription.
