Ayaneo has expanded its Android-based retro handheld lineup with a new limited-edition version of the Konkr Pocket Advance. Dubbed “Onyx Ice,” the device features a translucent black shell designed to mirror the aesthetic of early 2000s hardware, specifically referencing the Japan-exclusive King of Fighters Game Boy Advance model.
Pricing and Availability
This limited-edition model arrives with a higher price point than the standard colorways. Pre-orders for the Onyx Ice version start at $109 for the 3GB RAM and 32GB storage configuration, while the 4GB RAM and 64GB storage model is priced at $129. The unit is restricted to a production run of 500 units for customers outside of China, with shipping slated to commence in October 2026.
Community Response to Marketing Strategy
The announcement has sparked debate within the retro gaming community regarding Ayaneo’s rollout process. Some users have criticized the company for releasing new color options, such as the Onyx Ice and the recently added Peach variant, only after the initial pre-order window for the Coral, Navy, and Gray models had already closed. Customers have expressed frustration over the inability to modify existing pre-orders to switch to the newer limited-edition designs.
Future Hardware Updates
While the focus is currently on the Konkr Pocket Advance, Ayaneo’s latest press release also mentioned the upcoming Konkr Pocket Block, a vertical handheld inspired by the original Game Boy. As of August 2026, the company has not provided specific pricing or a firm release date for the vertical device.
