The consumer rights advocacy group Stop Killing Games has publicly addressed the recent unauthorized release of Grand Theft Auto 6 gameplay footage. The group, known for its legislative work regarding the shutdown of digital games, issued a statement urging the gaming community to avoid supporting those behind the leak.
The leaked content—which appears to feature early gameplay of the protagonist Jason and a map of the Leonida region—has been linked to a group calling itself 'CyberLeek.' The group claims its actions are a protest against Rockstar Games' decision to release the title without a physical disc and the inclusion of exclusive content in the game's Ultimate Edition.
Consumer Rights Concerns vs. Illegal Activity
Stop Killing Games emphasized that while frustrations regarding digital-only releases and corporate decisions are valid, the methods used by the leakers are counterproductive. The group noted that the leaked footage is being used to promote a cryptocurrency scheme, with QR codes and links attached to the videos asking for financial contributions.
"Do not send these people your money, no matter how much sympathy you may feel for their actions," the group stated. They further highlighted that such illegal acts risk tarnishing the reputation of legitimate consumer advocacy movements and negatively impact the developers who have worked on the project.
Official Response and Next Steps
Rockstar Games and parent company Take-Two have not provided a formal statement, though the swift removal of the leaked clips via DMCA takedowns points to the authenticity of the footage. The leak surfaced just over a week before the premiere of the official Grand Theft Auto 6 "Extended Look" trailer, which is scheduled for broadcast on Thursday, June 27.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is currently scheduled for release in 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X.
