Pikmin 3 Deluxe Gets Free Switch 2 Enhancements
Nintendo has rolled out a complimentary update for Pikmin 3 Deluxesignificantly improving the experience for owners of the Nintendo Switch 2. This update, which is now available, focuses on visual enhancements and introduces new multiplayer capabilities for the popular strategy adventure title.
Originally launched on the Nintendo Switch in October 2020, Pikmin 3 Deluxe is an expanded version of the 2013 Wii U game, Pikmin 3. It includes all previously released downloadable content, alongside new story elements such as a prologue and epilogue, offering a comprehensive package for players. The recent free update builds upon this foundation, specifically tailoring the game for the latest console hardware.
According to Nintendo, the update delivers improved visuals that are “optimized for the Nintendo Switch 2 display and high-resolution TVs for improved image quality.” This means players can expect a sharper, more detailed graphical presentation when playing on the newer console or connected to compatible high-resolution displays. The visual upgrade aims to make the vibrant world of Pikmin even more immersive and visually appealing.
Beyond graphical improvements, the update also adds support for GameShare. This new feature allows two players to engage in the competitive Bingo Battle game mode together. With GameShare, players can participate on separate devices, whether they are playing locally in the same physical space or connecting online via GameChat. This expands the multiplayer options, making it easier for friends and family to team up or compete in Bingo Battle without needing multiple copies of the game or specific local setups beyond their individual Switch 2 consoles.
This release positions Pikmin 3 Deluxe as the eighteenth first-party Nintendo Switch game to receive a free update specifically designed for the Switch 2. Unlike more extensive, paid “Switch 2 Edition” re-releases, these free updates typically focus on performance and feature enhancements for existing titles. Previous free updates for other first-party games have often included enhanced resolution, improved frame rates, or GameShare support. Some titles, such as Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2 and Game Builder Garagehave even gained Switch 2 mouse support, while others like Super Mario Odyssey and The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom have received HDR support, showcasing Nintendo's ongoing commitment to enhancing its library for the new hardware.
Players who own Pikmin 3 Deluxe on their Nintendo Switch 2 can expect the update to appear automatically the next time they attempt to start the game, ensuring immediate access to these new visual and multiplayer benefits.
