In the indie title Pathogenic, your choice of parasite dictates how you navigate the human body and progress toward the brain. Because your options are limited at the start, knowing which parasites to prioritize for your runs can help you reach the true ending more efficiently.
S-Tier: Top Performers
These parasites are the most effective for reaching advanced organs:
- Amoeba: This is arguably the best choice for progression. It requires 20% less DNA to level up, which provides a significant advantage over time.
- Helminth: A defensive specialist. While it cannot strafe, its ability to block attacks makes it a balanced and reliable choice once you master its movement patterns.
A-Tier: Balanced Options
These parasites are strong contenders but may require more energy or practice to reach the brain:
- Bacterium: The starting parasite. It is highly balanced with no significant weaknesses or complex mechanics, making it the ideal choice for beginners.
- Lil Collector: Excellent for those who prioritize upgrades, as it provides a 20% shop discount. Be careful near walls, as its mobility can be an issue; use the dodge button if you get stuck.
B-Tier: Niche Parasites
These options require specialized playstyles or extra coordination:
- Fungal Spore: Offers more organelle slots, which is a major benefit, but the inability to rotate makes it harder to avoid incoming damage.
- Diatom: A unique co-op parasite. It requires two players to control the same character simultaneously and is best used with a controller.
Note: As of July 2026, the Nanobot remains locked and is not currently ranked.
