Publisher Koei Tecmo has released official details and a debut trailer for the first downloadable content expansion coming to the action RPG sequel, Nioh 3. Titled Hell Rising the first of two planned DLC packs is confirmed to launch on PlayStation 5 on August 19, 2026.

New Stage, Weapons, and Enemies
The upcoming chunky first expansion brings players to Edo in 1651 during the Keian Era. Originally a peaceful castle town, the location has transformed into a hellish wasteland plagued by the gales of the Crucible. Yokai, human rebels, and foreign alchemists have descended upon the area, leaving the shogun's former authority overridden with chaotic battles and unknown threats.
In addition to the new setting, Hell Rising introduces two weapon types: the hoko & shield and the ninja hoko & shield. Players will also face fresh enemies and bosses, including the one-eyed swordsman Yagyu Jubei.
Difficulty and Replayability Features
For players who have already conquered the Shogun's Journey, the expansion introduces a tougher difficulty tier called The Enlightened One's Journey. This mode provides greater growth opportunities, including stronger equipment, additional Soul Cores, higher level caps, and elevated +value caps through Soul Matching.
Furthermore, the DLC introduces Hundred Demon Realms Picture Scrolls. These items allow players to engage in customizable battles utilizing scroll effects to self-impose extra challenges. Successfully completing these challenges unlocks the scrolls as equipment. The mode is built for high replayability and can be played solo or in online multiplayer.
Hell Rising will be available immediately to players who purchased the Season Pass, with a separate standalone purchase option arriving at a later date.
