2K has confirmed the upcoming sunset for NBA 2K25, marking the end of its digital availability and online infrastructure. According to the official 2K support page the title will be removed from all digital storefronts on October 30th, 2026. Following this, the game's online services are scheduled to cease operations on December 31st, 2026.
Impact on Game Modes and Features
The shutdown significantly alters the functionality of the game for existing owners. Starting January 1st, 2027, all online multiplayer modes will be permanently unavailable. Players who rely on connected features will see a major reduction in content, as MyCareer and MyTeam modes are directly tied to these servers and will be affected by the shutdown. Furthermore, the ability to earn Virtual Currency within the game will be disabled once the servers go offline.
What Remains Accessible
Despite the loss of online connectivity, several core components of the game will remain functional for users. Players can continue to access offline modes, ensuring that the title does not become entirely unplayable. The following table outlines the status of specific game features post-shutdown:
| Feature Category | Status After Dec 31, 2026 |
|---|---|
| Online Multiplayer | Unavailable |
| MyCareer / MyTeam | Inaccessible or Limited |
| Virtual Currency | Earning Disabled |
| Play Now / MyNBA | Playable Offline |
| The W / MyWNBA | Playable Offline |
For those who enjoy the franchise for its single-player experiences, the offline suite remains intact. You can still engage with Play Now, MyNBA, The W, and MyWNBA without an active server connection. However, community-driven features and online competitive play will no longer be supported. Players are encouraged to finalize any remaining online objectives before the December 31st deadline to avoid losing access to progress tied to these specific services.
