The German Games Industry Association has confirmed that for the first time in the event's history, all available exhibition space for Gamescom 2026 has sold out. Following record-breaking demand last year, organizers are already looking ahead to 2027 to develop expansion concepts that can accommodate further growth.

Quick Facts

  • Dates: August 26–30, 2026 (Trade/media day on August 26).
  • Location: Cologne, Germany.
  • Confirmed Exhibitors: Nintendo, Xbox, Capcom, Sega, Ubisoft, Bandai Namco, Electronic Arts, Konami, NetEase Games, Deep Silver, and more.
  • New Addition: Games Done Quick (GDQ) will host its European premiere at the event.

A Growing Industry Presence

The total booking of the venue in Cologne is viewed by Gamescom Director Tim Endres as a strong signal for the industry. Despite expanding the floor space just last year, the event continues to see increasing demand from international developers and publishers. Alongside the major names already announced, the list of confirmed participants has grown to include Tencent Games, NC, Level Infinite, Embark Studios, and Konami.

The German Games Industry Association and co-organizer Koelnmesse stated they are currently working on strategies to improve the visitor experience and accommodate more exhibitors by 2027.

Event Highlights and Digital Programming

Gamescom 2026 maintains its focus on a hybrid format, blending on-site activities in Cologne with global digital reach. Key programming includes:

  • Gamescom Opening Night Live: Hosted by Geoff Keighley and Eefje “sjokz” Depoortere on August 25. The show is expected to feature updates on METRO 2039 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt– Songs of the Past, both slated for 2027 releases.
  • Gamescom Awesome Indies: This format will continue to receive development support in partnership with IGN to increase visibility for independent studios.
  • Gamescom GDQ: A new addition for 2026, the speedrunning event will host a dedicated stage from Friday to Sunday, collecting donations for the “Gaming for Democracy“ initiative.

Community and Accessibility Improvements

Organizers have implemented several updates to the event structure this year. The cosplay village remains a central hub, with updated costume design rules created in collaboration with the community and industry representatives. Additionally, a new location finder tool has been introduced to help attendees navigate the grounds, featuring filters for accessible toilets and free water dispensers.

The event arena will host social programming throughout the week, including a cosplay contest and a panel quiz by DidYouKnowGaming.
