Asobo Studio has confirmed that its next project, Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, will launch on August 27, 2026. The title marks a pivot for the French developer, shifting from the stealth-heavy gameplay of its previous work to a AA-scale modern action experience.
A History Built on Licensed Titles
While Asobo Studio gained significant recognition with 2019's A Plague Tale: Innocence and the Game of the Year-nominated A Plague Tale: Requiem, its development history includes years of work on licensed movie tie-ins. Between 2007 and 2012, the studio co-developed titles based on Pixar properties including Ratatouille, WALL-E, Up, and Toy Story 3.
These projects allowed the studio to refine its approach to cinematic storytelling and character animation. The 2007 Ratatouille game, in particular, earned an Annie Award for Best Animated Video Game, demonstrating an early focus on high-effort production values and Hollywood-standard voice acting that would later inform their original IP development.
The Transition to Original IP
Following its work on licensed fare, Asobo assisted on major projects like Remedy Entertainment’s Quantum Break, contributing to lighting, animation, and FX. This period of technical diversification served as the foundation for the studio’s pivot toward mature, narrative-driven adventure games.
