Choose a valid tile and open the founding form
Steps
- Stand on the intended settlement-token tile. Right-click the Settlement deed stake in your inventory and choose Village → Found Village. [1]
- Review the series of application forms for settlement size, perimeter, name, government type and guards. Founding costs are taken from your bank account. [1]
Limits & applicability
- Tokens cannot be founded inside a cave or a house; clear aggressive animals on the deed before applying. [1]
Use the token to maintain the village
Steps
- Open Settlement → Info at the token to inspect deed size, guards and how long upkeep will last. [2]
- Use Add to Upkeep to contribute bank funds to the village’s upkeep. Review permissions through Manage windows. [2]
Limits & applicability
- You can edit settlement settings after founding from the Token’s Settlement menu or the settlement deed paper’s Village menu. [1]
Check ownership and founding restrictions first
The proposed deed must satisfy ownership and location checks before its application can succeed. You need management permissions for buildings inside the new settlement area. The token cannot be inside a cave or house or on a submerged tile, and aggressive animals inside the planned deed prevent founding. These constraints make the token location and the proposed deed borders separate checks. [1]
Steps
- Before accepting the application, confirm that you can manage all buildings inside the deed. Use the Survey Area button in the forms to show temporary markers along the proposed borders. [1]
Review dimensions and perimeter costs
The founding forms describe the size separately toward east, west, north and south. The deed is rectangular, and one edge cannot exceed four times the other edge. Perimeter beyond the free allowance is also a separate selection. Review the proposed borders through Survey Area before committing, because the token does not automatically move the deed’s borders when an obstructed token tile causes its placement to shift. [1]
Steps
- Choose the east/west/north/south extents and inspect the marked area. Check the perimeter setting, name, government type and guard count before confirming the application. [1]
Understand the citizen and free-account limitations
A character can be a citizen or mayor of only one settlement per server. Founding a new deed while you are a villager of another makes you mayor of the new deed and automatically leaves the old one. Free players may found a deed, but the documented rules do not allow them to invite other players until they become premium or take ownership of an existing deed. [1]
Limits & applicability
- If inviting a friend is unavailable on a free account, compare that behavior with the account limitation before diagnosing it as a broken village invitation. [1]
Inspect upkeep and permissions after founding
After founding, the settlement token is the management point for the village’s rules, citizens and guards. Info reports the current upkeep duration. Add to Upkeep draws funds from the bank. Manage windows changes village permissions, while Resize changes the village size. Those actions serve different purposes, so use Info to inspect the state before deciding which change is needed. [2]
Steps
- Use Manage windows for permission changes and Info for the deed’s upkeep state. If more upkeep is required, use Add to Upkeep rather than a setting that disbands the village. [2]
Limits & applicability
- Disband settlement is the option for intentionally disbanding the village; it is not an upkeep or permission reset. [2]
