Confirm that you are the server host
V Rising server backups are the host’s responsibility. Stunlock says a player cannot back up a server they are not hosting; playing locally on your own PC server does count as hosting. Begin by deciding whether you need one server’s local save, all local servers or the local cloud-save directory. Keep the copied sets identifiable so a backup is not mistaken for a different world. [1]
Use Load Game to locate one server’s save files
For a single local server, launch V Rising and open Load Game. Select the server and choose Go to Directory. This opens that server’s save folder in File Explorer, avoiding the need to guess which directory belongs to the world. The publisher identifies files named AutoSave_[number].save, such as AutoSave_0.save, as the server save files. [1]
Steps
- In Load Game, select the server, choose Go to Directory and copy its AutoSave_[number].save files to a location you can find later. Label the copy with the server it belongs to. [1]
Back up all local server saves when needed
Stunlock’s all-server route is the Windows directory %appdata%\..\LocalLow\Stunlock Studios\VRising\Saves\v3. Copy the files from that directory to another location. The support article is explicit that the original files must stay in place: moving them prevents the game from loading the saves from their original location. [1]
Steps
- Open the published Saves\v3 directory in File Explorer and copy its files to your backup location, leaving the originals in place. [1]
Keep cloud-save copies distinct from local-server copies
For cloud-backed servers, Stunlock points to %appdata%\..\LocalLow\Stunlock Studios\VRising\CloudSaves. Copy those files to a separate identifiable location as well, and note which set is from cloud saves. This is the publisher’s local backup procedure for those files; it is not a claim that another player can download and back up a server they do not host. [1]
Steps
- Copy the CloudSaves directory’s files to a location labeled as the cloud-save backup, retaining the original files. [1]
