Dedicated hosting is not supported on macOS
The official dedicated-server guide supports Windows and Linux hosts and explicitly excludes hosting on macOS. This describes the server tool’s platform support; it should not be broadened into a claim that no macOS player can join a server hosted elsewhere. [2]
Server setting edits do not apply while it is open
The server documentation says most settings cannot be configured while the server is open. Basic map, password and player-limit settings belong in Commands.dat, while Config.txt serves difficulty and advanced configuration. A setting edited in the wrong file or during an unsupported lifecycle stage is a different problem from a client connection defect. [2]
Limits & applicability
- Save is a runtime command. The documented Save and Shutdown commands preserve progress; placing Save in a startup file is not described as an autosave system. [2]
Dedicated server progress requires an explicit save
The official setup documentation says there is no built-in autosave. Use the Save command while running, or Shutdown to save and close safely. [2]
Private server missing from the public Multiplayer list
The simple server setup is private by default. Unless advanced configuration is added, players outside the same LAN join through a Steam invitation or the Server Code rather than a public browser listing. [2]
Documented steps
- Invite the friend through Steam, or share the current Server Code and have them enter it in Connect Directly. [2]
Steam Overlay conflict: September 30 BattlEye launcher update
The September 30 patch identifies the BattlEye launcher as the component changed to resolve Steam Overlay issues. This is an official fix for that conflict, rather than advice to bypass BattlEye. [1]
Untrusted server invitations and Workshop content
The September 30 notes warn of increased reports involving malicious Workshop content and advise caution with unexpected server invitations or servers from unknown people. This is a publisher warning, not evidence that a particular downloaded mod is malicious. It does not justify bypassing anti-cheat or installing an unofficial executable to repair the Overlay issue. [1]
Limits & applicability
- Apply the warning to unexpected invitations and servers you do not trust. The same notice does not label every Workshop mod unsafe. [1]
Sources & verification
Platform and version details belong to the individual issue or guide section. A documented workaround may not resolve every case.
