Choose reduced combat difficulty if you still want combat consequences
The September 2022 update adds a reduced combat difficulty setting for players who want easier fights without turning on No Fail mode. Use that setting when this is the desired balance: combat remains part of the play experience, with the game’s reduced setting selected. The announcement distinguishes the two options but does not publish numerical enemy-health or damage multipliers. [1]
Steps
- Select the reduced combat difficulty setting when you want easier combat without choosing No Fail mode. [1]
Move the actions you struggle to reach onto comfortable controller inputs
The same update adds controller remapping. The developer’s examples are moving potion use to a face button and moving dodge to a stick press. Use those examples to identify the action you want to change, then select an input that is comfortable for your hands. They are possibilities provided by the remapping feature, not a prescribed layout for every controller. [1]
Steps
- Customize the controller input for an important combat action, such as potion use or dodge. [1]
Use Reduce Damage Flash for the documented flashing effects
The March patch expands the Reduce Damage Flash accessibility option so it also turns off enemy telegraph flashing and stamina-bar flashing. Enable that option when those particular effects are an obstacle to following the action. This is a visual setting with named effects; the release note does not describe it as a replacement for learning an enemy’s timing or as a change to the stamina rules. [2]
Steps
- Enable Reduce Damage Flash if you want to remove enemy telegraph and stamina-bar flashing. [2]
Keep the separate accessibility tools matched to the obstacle
Combat difficulty and controller remapping address different parts of a difficult fight. TUNIC also has Audio Puzzle Assistance for adding a visual element to otherwise audio-only puzzles. Use that separate option for an audio puzzle rather than expecting the combat setting to change its presentation. A further late-game accessibility button appears only at a certain point, according to the developer; its absence earlier in the game is not evidence that controller remapping failed. [1]
The late-game button is described as progression-dependent. [1]
