Train Sim World 5: How to Bring Owned Steam Add-ons into the Game

Check compatibility and the original Steam account, download each TSW 5 add-on version and distinguish content ownership from imported profile progress.

PC

Check that the older add-on has a TSW 5 version

Platforms: PCEvidence checked

TSW 5 supports many earlier add-ons, rather than promising compatibility for every product ever released. Use Dovetail’s Add-On Compatibility Guide, linked from the FAQ, to identify whether the particular add-on has a compatible version. [1]

Start with this compatibility check before treating an absent route or locomotive as a failed download. The FAQ distinguishes route and locomotive products, and notes that a loco add-on normally requires an associated route. [1]

Check the locomotive product’s route requirement as well as the game-version compatibility. [1]

Use the same Steam platform and account

Platforms: PCEvidence checked

Use the Steam account that owns the older add-on and TSW 5. The publisher’s entitlement condition requires both the same platform and the same account. An Epic purchase on the same computer is a separate platform purchase. [1]

Dovetail’s platform list separates Steam on PC from Epic Games Store on PC. [1]

Download the TSW 5 files for each compatible add-on

Platforms: PCEvidence checked

Download the TSW 5 version of the compatible add-on, even if the earlier game and its add-on are already installed. The games do not share those files. The older installation can coexist, but it does not supply the new game’s add-on installation. [1]

Steps

  1. Download the Train Sim World 5 version of each compatible add-on you want to use. [1]
  2. For add-ons bought in a bundle, download the bundle’s individual components. [1]

Import progress separately from content ownership

Platforms: PCEvidence checked

Profile progress and platform purchases have different roles. The FAQ says the profile and Dovetail Live do not record purchase entitlements, so importing a profile does not replace the download task. [1]

When checking missing content, verify the owned add-on’s TSW 5 files rather than repeating profile import as though it transfers store ownership. [1]

Do not depend on claiming the expired Starter Pack offer

Platforms: PCEvidence checked

The FAQ now explicitly marks the Free Starter Pack promotion as ended. Its historical instructions for claiming that promotion should not be read as a currently available free upgrade. Use the TSW 5 licence already held on the correct account, or its available paid offering, when applying the compatibility instructions. [1]
