Choose a feeder for the animals you want

For the original Game Feeder Pack, use a Box Feeder when the goal is deer. Its elevated design restricts access, while the Post Feeder serves a broader range of animals. [1]

The Post Feeder is the developer’s broader-attraction option. The Bait Barrel instead supplies a durable way to draw bears and boars away from the other feeding sites. [2]

Choose the Bait Barrel when that separation is useful to the planned hunting setup. [1]

Fill the selected feeder with compatible bait

The Box and Post Feeder use Fortified Pellet Feed or Multigrain Flake Mix. [1]

Use Sour Fermented Mash or Meat Scraps for the Bait Barrel. These are the original pack’s compatible bait choices; they are not a list of every feeder introduced in later DLC. [1]

Scout travel routes and respect placement spacing

The original pack’s diary permits up to eight feeders on a map. [2]

Scout animal travel routes before placing a feeder nearby. Animals must pass through the general area to learn that food is available, so a distant placement alone does not establish that the desired herd has found it. [2]

Allow for that discovery condition when choosing the site. [2]

Hunt around the animal’s feeding schedule

Learn the animal’s feeding times from its regular Need Zones and plan the visit around those times. The developer also recommends switching to another feeder region when hunting pressure rises, instead of concentrating every kill at one site. [2]

Rotate between feeding sites when needed to spread the hunting activity. [2]

Match maintenance to the feeder’s behavior

For a Box Feeder, bait depletion can indicate animal visits. [2]

The Post Feeder dispenses continuously and needs topping up accordingly. [2]

Bears can destroy the Box Feeder, while the Post Feeder and Bait Barrel are described as resistant to those attacks. Account for that difference when choosing which structure to put in bear country. [1]
