Equipping an unsaved blank build resets the setup

Platforms: PC, PlayStation, XboxEvidence checked

The Armory FAQ warns players to save their current build before equipping a slot for the first time. A blank setup resets everything to unslotted. Without saving first, a Vampire or Werewolf skill can be lost and require reacquisition. Preserve the current build before experimenting with another slot. [2]

A different saved build can remove and restore the curse

Platforms: PC, PlayStation, XboxEvidence checked

Switching to a saved build without Vampire or Werewolf removes that curse; switching back to a build with it restores it without wiping skill-line progress. The FAQ distinguishes this normal build swap from failing to save the original cursed setup. [2]

Documented workaround

Armory Station reports Failed to equip build

Platforms: PC, PlayStation, XboxEvidence checked

ESO support supplies a procedure for the Failed to equip build message: remove equipped gear, die through normal gameplay and revive at a wayshrine so the character reloads elsewhere. It also says a build using Subclassing requires completing A Study in Discipline. These are the documented checks for this error. [1]

Documented steps

  1. Unequip the character’s gear and armor, die by normal gameplay methods, then choose revival at the nearest wayshrine to force a reload in a new location. [1]
  2. For a Subclassing build, complete A Study in Discipline before using the saved build. [1]
