Use an updated copy of Super Mario Bros. Wonder on Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2. Online play requires Nintendo Switch Online membership. Nintendo distinguishes random live player shadows from a room made for friends, so use the friends flow when you want a chosen group. [1]

Steps

  1. Launch the updated game and reach the world map before opening the online menu. [1]

Create the Friend Room from the world map

On the world map, press + to open Main Menu, select Play Online at the bottom right and press X to play with friends. Choose Create Room. The host can press X to set an optional four-digit password, then select OK to create the Friend Room. Give invited players that password if you set one. [1]

Steps

  1. Select Play Online → X → Create Room, optionally set the four-digit password with X, then choose OK. [1]

Guests open the same Play Online menu from the world map, press X and choose Find Room. Select the friend’s room from the available list and enter its password when required. Create Room and Find Room are separate choices; guests should find the existing room instead of making another one. [1]

Steps

  1. From Play Online, press X, select Find Room and choose the friend’s listed room; enter its password if prompted. [1]

Arrange the group within the online limits

One room accommodates twelve players, but only two can join from any one console and courses are played in groups of up to four. For the in-game explanation, return to Main Menu → Play Online → Online Play Guide, shown as a question-block icon on the right. This is useful when choosing between live player shadows and playing with a friend room. [1]
