Stardew Valley: How to Invite Friends to an Existing Farm on PC

Build the cabin, launch the existing save through Co-op and resolve missing Steam or GOG invite controls.

Prepare matching desktop versions before hosting

To turn an existing Stardew Valley farm into a session friends can join, begin by matching the host and guest installations. The developer’s 1.6 notes require both version and build number to match. This guide follows the PC route: 1.6 supports up to eight PC players, so the older troubleshooting page’s four-player example is not a ceiling for this version. [1]

Steps

  1. Use the title screen’s question-mark button to view the game version, and compare the displayed information across the host and guests. [2]

Add the cabin needed by the joining player

Visit Robin on the existing farm and buy a cabin for the additional player. The support page requires enough cabins for the people connecting. Under the 1.6 changes, a cabin costs 100g and does not require building materials; Robin’s construction menu groups cabins in one entry. Stone, Plank and Log styles have no gameplay difference according to the developer’s troubleshooting page, so the style is not a compatibility choice. [2] [1]

Steps

  1. Use Robin’s Cabins construction entry to add the extra accommodation. If it is missing, check capacity and whether the save is running in Co-op. [2]

Reopen the existing save from Co-op, then Host

Return to the title screen and choose Co-op, then Host, and select the existing save. The Options menu gives a useful confirmation: Multiplayer should appear above Sound. On desktop, set Server Mode to Online so another player can connect. The published instructions distinguish this multiplayer launch from opening a single-player session with the ordinary load flow. [2]

Steps

  1. Load the farm through Co-op → Host and confirm the Multiplayer options are visible before inviting the other player. [2]

Check the Steam or GOG session when inviting

Platforms: PCEvidence checked

Keep Steam or GOG Galaxy running with a valid account signed in. The host’s Options menu can show Invite Friend and Show Invite Code; the joining player’s Co-op Join tab can show Enter Invite Code. If those controls are absent, the developer identifies an inability to access the launcher account. Resolve that account-session check before treating the missing button as a cabin problem. [2]

Steps

  1. Check the host’s invite controls and the guest’s Enter Invite Code option after signing into Steam or GOG Galaxy. If joining still fails, recheck matching builds, Co-op hosting and available cabins in that order. [2] [1]
