Space Haven: How to Launch Steam Workshop Mods with the Mod Loader

Join the documented branch, subscribe to the loader and mods, then launch through the loader rather than the ordinary game option.

Select the play_with_mods branch

Bugbyte’s official Workshop setup uses a Mod Loader as the launcher for the modded game. Its instructions require both the dedicated Steam branch and Workshop subscriptions. Selecting only the ordinary game launch flow is not the procedure described here. The developer credits community contributors for the Mod Loader. [1]

Steps

  1. In Steam Library, right-click Space Haven, choose Properties, open Betas and select play_with_mods from the dropdown. [1]

Subscribe to the loader and the selected mods

The Mod Loader and the individual mods are separate subscriptions. The official process starts from the Space Haven entry inside the Steam client and opens its Workshop. Finish that part of the setup before trying to start the modded game. These published steps use Steam subscriptions for the loader and mods. [1]

Steps

  1. Open Space Haven’s Workshop in the Steam client. Subscribe to Space Haven Mod Loader, then subscribe to the mods you intend to use. [1]

Choose Play With Mods and inspect the loader

Wait for Steam to download the Workshop content. Launch Space Haven and select Play With Mods. That opens the Mod Loader, which shows the enabled mods. This intermediate window is part of the expected workflow; the game itself starts after you use the loader’s launch button. [1]

Steps

  1. Select the Play With Mods launch option, review the enabled-mod list in the Mod Loader, then click its launch button. [1]

Use the developer’s checks if the loader is missing

If a subscribed loader is not found, first verify that Steam has downloaded its content. Bugbyte’s next documented check is a Steam restart. If settings do not persist inside the Mod Loader, use its Clear Quicklaunch file button. Those checks concern this loader setup; they do not establish that every community mod is compatible with every save. [1]

Steps

  1. Restart Steam if the subscribed loader is still absent. Use Clear Quicklaunch file when the loader specifically fails to retain its mod settings. [1]

Keep playing and uploading workflows separate

Platforms: PCUpdated Evidence checked

Installing subscribed mods does not require the separate workshop.jar upload procedure. Bugbyte reserves that tool for creating, uploading and updating a mod. Its announcement links the modding tools’ GitHub instructions and the game’s modding discussion channels for authors. Use the subscription and launch steps above when the task is simply to play. [1]
