Start with a Show or Hide block and its conditions
The official filter reference defines a filter as Show and Hide blocks with conditions. A Show match remains visible, while a Hide match is hidden. Every condition within one block must match the item. For a first edit, keep the intended item category narrow so the rule describes the items you mean to change. [1]
Steps
- Use the documented “Show Rarity >= Rare” example to match Rare and Unique items, or “Hide BaseType "Scroll of Wisdom"” to hide that base type in a Normal filter. [1]
Keep Normal, Ruthless and PoE2-only syntax separate
Hide is only usable in Normal filters. Ruthless instead provides Minimal, setting matching labels to minimum size with a transparent background. The reference also labels conditions restricted to PoE2; do not copy one of those into a Path of Exile 1 rule merely because it appears in the shared reference. [1]
Add a visual or sound action to the matching block
Steps
- Use SetBorderColor to set the item-label border. Its colour values run from 0 to 255; the reference example is “SetBorderColor 255 0 0”. [1]
- For a built-in alert, use PlayAlertSound with an ID from 1 to 16 and volume from 0 to 300. “PlayAlertSound 1 100” is the documented example; None disables the alert. [1]
