Palworld: How to Enable Dedicated Server World Backups

Use the active server configuration, enable world backups and understand the retention tiers and Save command.

PC

Locate the active dedicated-server configuration

Platforms: PCEvidence checked

Pocketpair’s server configuration documentation uses PalWorldSettings.ini under Pal/Saved/Config. On the documented Steam Windows installation the folder is WindowsServer; Linux uses LinuxServer. DefaultPalWorldSettings.ini is a template, and editing only that template does not apply the setting to the running world. Use the active file appropriate to the server installation. [1]

Steps

  1. Open the active WindowsServer or LinuxServer PalWorldSettings.ini. If creating the configuration for the first time, use the publisher’s default configuration as the starting file. [1]

Enable the automatic world-backup setting

Platforms: PCEvidence checked

The setting controlling automatic world backups is bIsUseBackupSaveData. Enabling it creates a backup directory within the save-data directory. Pocketpair notes that backups increase disk load, which matters when reviewing the storage workload of the server. This setting is for the dedicated-server world; it is not an instruction to move a console player’s save files. [1]

Steps

  1. Enable bIsUseBackupSaveData in the active configuration file to turn on the documented world-backup feature. [1]

Understand the documented backup tiers

Platforms: PCEvidence checked

The configuration page describes four tiers: five saves at 30-second intervals, six at 10-minute intervals, twelve at one-hour intervals and seven at one-day intervals. These tier counts describe the documented backup retention. They should not be read as seven years of history or as a separate copy on a different machine. [1]

Steps

  1. Check the backup directory inside the server’s save-data directory after enabling the setting, using the documented tiers when choosing an available backup generation. [1]

Use the documented Save command for an intentional save

Platforms: PCEvidence checked

The server has a separate /Save command that saves world data. To issue in-game administrative commands, AdminPassword must first be set in the configuration, and the administrator must authenticate with /AdminPassword. Press Enter to enter a command. Saving world data and enabling the backup-retention setting are different operations in the documentation. [2]

Steps

  1. Configure AdminPassword, then authenticate in game with /AdminPassword using that password. [2]
  2. Enter /Save when you need an intentional world-data save. The official command list also provides /Shutdown with an optional delay and a message sent to connected players for planned maintenance. [2]
