The protection-prayer drill asks you to react to the opponent’s equipment changes and select the appropriate protection prayer. It also offers an endless practice mode. [1]

Steps

  1. Complete the skill challenges to unlock Pete’s Penultimate Challenge. Beat that fight to reach his Final Challenge, which uses high-end gear. [1]

Claim the reward under the revised rules

The Easy Wilderness Diary prerequisite was removed on October 14. You do not need to finish that diary solely to meet this reward-claim requirement. [2]

Steps

  1. Survive the Final Challenge to earn the Ancient cosmetic kit for an Imbued God Cape; the announcement also documents Max Cape and Deadman Cape variants. [1]

Practise freezes and escape responses

Power of Freezes is a training task for binding or freezing an opponent to gain control and time to log out safely. The challenge also covers how opponents use Mithril and Adamant seeds. Its endless mode provides repeated practice, so you can return to this drill independently of the two Pete fights rather than only attempting the full sequence once. [1]

Steps

  1. Use the Power of Freezes challenge to practise the response to freezing and seed use, then use its endless version when you want repeated attempts. [1]

Build special-attack and switching practice

Platforms: PCUpdated Evidence checked

Special Attacks teaches unpredictable attacks with different weapons. Completing it unlocks free practice with supplied special-attack weapons and rapidly restored energy against NPCs. Gear Switching focuses on changing your offensive equipment in response to the opponent’s gear and prayers; its endless mode lets you customize the speed of those opponent changes. [1]

Steps

  1. Complete Special Attacks before using its free-practice mode, and choose the Gear Switching endless mode when you want to set the opponent’s change speed. [1]

Practise combo-eating before the final fight

Platforms: PCUpdated Evidence checked

Combo Eating uses Sharks, Saradomin Brews and Karambwans to teach the order and timing of eating in response to damage. The challenge has an endless mode for repetition. Pete’s Final Challenge combines advanced responses: he can fake gear changes, predict yours, use freezes and combo-eat. The practice tasks therefore train skills used together in that later fight. [1]

Steps

  1. Set the combo-eating inventory through Loadouts before starting the drill, and use its endless mode to repeat the timing exercise. [1]

Understand the additional challenge rewards

Individual challenge completion also awards a small number of Blighted supplies and a limited 25 points for Justine’s Last Shopper Standing shop. Those points are separate from the cosmetic kit awarded for surviving the final fight. The announcement suggests Last Man Standing if you remain a few points short of a shop reward. [1]

Limits & applicability

  • The October 14 changes improve Pete’s challenge behavior: they clear planted seeds between fights and restore continued energy regeneration after leaving the Special Attack challenge. Check these updated rules before using an older walkthrough’s assumptions. [2]
