No Man's Sky: How to Use the Cosmos Star-System Map and Haul Salvage

Unlock map points, mark deep-space destinations and prepare the Coil and Corvette Tractor Beam for salvage.

Reach the Space Anomaly before looking for new deep-space points

Platforms: PCUpdated Evidence checked

Cosmos adds a local star-system map with celestial bodies, the station and deep-space points of interest. These points begin appearing once that save has reached the Space Anomaly for the first time. If an early save lacks the new markers, confirm this progression prerequisite before treating the map as broken. The light Signals tutorial introduces the map and navigation. [1]

Steps

  1. Reach the Space Anomaly on the save you intend to use, then follow the Signals introduction to the star-system map. [1]

Open the local map and mark a destination

Open the star-system map through the Quick Menu. It shows local planets, the space station and other points rather than being a guide to another galaxy. Mark a planet or point of interest to turn on starship navigation assistance. The listed locations include rocky or icy asteroid belts, inhabited or infested outposts, hulks, debris fields and asteroid platforms. [1]

Steps

  1. Quick Menu → star-system map → mark a planet or point of interest to enable navigation assistance. [1]

Prepare a Corvette if you want to haul physical salvage

Platforms: PCUpdated Evidence checked

For salvage, Hello Games recommends a Gravitino Coil and a Corvette fitted with a Tractor Beam. The beam can be bought at the Corvette Workshop in space stations and gathers physical cargo into the Corvette hold. Launch salvage at the beam with the Coil; the update says excessively large objects are processed for storage. Hulks can become unstable and explode when their structural integrity is disrupted, so prioritize valuable loot rather than assuming unlimited safe stripping. [1]

Steps

  1. Buy the Tractor Beam at a station’s Corvette Workshop, equip the Corvette for hauling and use the Gravitino Coil to move physical salvage toward the beam. [1]

Take the haul to a deep-space outpost

Platforms: PCUpdated Evidence checked

Outposts contain a quartermaster trading maps and salvaged materials, plus a salvage and delivery terminal for deep-space contracts. Process the raw materials at an outpost into items to sell through the Galactic Trade Network or use for station construction. This completes the documented map-to-salvage loop without assuming that owning a station or founding an alliance is required just to use the new map. [1]
