Choose the meaning of your targeting rule
Patch 2.2.16 replaces the Lowest HP targeting option with Lowest Effective HP. It considers your Penetration together with an enemy’s Defense and HP, aiming at the target judged easiest to kill rather than simply the one with the smallest raw HP amount. This is the targeting rule described by the publisher; it does not guarantee a kill. [1]
Steps
- In the control settings’ Targeting Priority options, select Lowest Effective HP if you want that Defense-, HP- and Penetration-aware rule. The old Lowest HP label has been replaced for this option. [1]
- Choose Closest Target or Lowest HP Percent instead if that is the rule you intend to use. The publisher says those two options remain unchanged by this update. [1]
Check the four True Damage exceptions
Karina, Karrie, Lesley and Thamuz continue using the Lowest HP rule even when Lowest Effective HP is selected, because a large share of their damage is True Damage. The selected label therefore does not imply the same effective-HP calculation for every hero. [1]
Keep pursuing a hero after the first Basic Attack
The same patch reduces repeated target switching between minions and heroes during ranged Basic Attack pursuit. After hitting a hero, repeated Basic Attack taps within a short time prioritise pursuing and attacking that target again, unless a higher-priority enemy hero is already within Basic Attack range. That exception matters when comparing your selected rule with what the hero actually attacks. [1]
