Open the configurable debug controls

Platforms: PCEvidence checked

Minecraft Java’s 1.21.9 notes introduce configurable Debug Options, with less information shown by default. Each debug element can be hidden, shown in the overlay, or kept visible even when the overlay is inactive. The settings persist between game launches. [1]

Steps

  1. Press F3 + F6 to open Debug Options. [1]

Keep the FPS display visible

Platforms: PCEvidence checked

The Performance preset is the documented starting point for a compact performance display. It enables simple performance metrics and keeps the FPS meter visible. Individual elements can then be configured through the same screen. [1]

Steps

  1. Select the Performance preset for its always-visible FPS meter. [1]
  2. Configure individual debug elements as visible, hidden or always visible to match the information you need. [1]

Choose a separate overlay scale in Java 26.3

Platforms: PCVersions: Java 26.3Updated Evidence checked

Java 26.3 adds an overlay GUI scale separate from the rest of the game. Its Auto default aims for a higher resolution than normal. Unchanged matches the regular GUI scale; the other choices control scaling directly. [2]

Steps

  1. In Java 26.3’s Debug Options, choose Unchanged to match the regular GUI scale, or use the separate scale choices for the overlay. [2]

Restore the default profile

Platforms: PCEvidence checked

The Default profile provides a documented reset when you want to return to the original debug layout. [1]

Steps

  1. Choose Default to reset the Debug Options profile. [1]
